On start this AM the VDC and REAR DIFF lights illuminate. If I hit the rear diff switch the REAR DIFF light goes out and then ABS and SLIP come on. I can hear the 4wd engage both high and low when I turn it on with my door open.

Put the transmission in N and cycle the 4wd to 4 high or 4 lo. Sometimes you have to move a little put it back to Nuetral and cycle till the light goes off. When the VDC light is on you might've turned on the 4wd without doing it properly and it gets stuck in low range.
