I always recommend to put a wood dowel down the cylinder (remove both plugs) and turn it over by hand (either from under the tractor or with engine removed) and mark the rod at the spot where the cylinder is the highest. Do both cylinders they should be the same.Pulling both plugs out of the engine allows the starter to crank it faster as well, you should see spark under those conditions. Let us know what you find. With spark plugs in engine, key in on position, placed ohm meter on positive and negative of the coil - reading is 17 ohms. This past summer I replaced the points/condenser (0.016" gap), fuel filter, fuel lines, fuel pickups, adjusted the valves (checked 3x), new spark plugs and checked gap (0.025"), homemade automotive spark plug wire, disassembled and cleaned the carburetor (2x), new intake/exhaust gaskets, re …318 p218 no spark during crank.
