Reverse: The reverse is a doubled die listed in the Wexler Doubled Die Files as 1968-S 5¢ Pr WDDR-027. A close CW spread from a pivot at about 11:00 shows on OF AMERICA. A small die gouge can be found to the left of the bottom of the first T in STATES.This one is listed as 1866 5¢ WRPD-001. It is also listed in The Cherrypickers' Guide to Rare Die Varieties as FS-05-1866-302 (001.1). These two photos show doubling to the 5 and the second 1 in the date of an 1851 Large Cent that we have listed as 1851 1¢ WRPD-001 thanks to Tony Russo.Like the Repunched Mint Mark (RPM) varieties, the Over Mint Mark (OMM) varieties, and the Dual Mint Mark (DMM) varieties, it is the result of the mint mark being hand-punched into the working dies. The 1969-S Lincoln cent obverse doubled die listed as 1969-S 1¢ WDDO-001 is an extremely rare and popular variety. Following you will see photos of the genuine doubled die doubling on the date, and you will also see mechanical doubling on the date of a different 1969-S Lincoln cent.After doing research, I think it most resembles the 1963 1¢ WDDO-010 listed on Wexler’s Coins and Die Varieties website. Copper Coins was used as a reference as well. Doubling shows in the “9” and “6” of the date. A die gouge (dot) displays between the “6” and “3” of the date.
